The OnePlus 9 is here, giving us our official detailed look at the much awaited flagship grade smartphones. This year, the OnePlus 9 series has gotten more interesting thanks to a Hasselblad partnership. However, the India-special OnePlus 9R has so far eluded screen time. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro come with features such as a 120Hz Fluid Display 2.0 with adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, a Hasselblad-branded triple and quad rear camera setup including a 48MP Sony IMX789 custom sensor on the OnePlus 9 Pro. The latter is reportedly the largest image sensor there is on a smartphone in the world right now. It also gets a 50MP ultra-wide unit, and Hasselblad has lent its expertise to Natural Colour Calibration algos on these phones. OnePlus has also launched the OnePlus Watch — which is its first smartwatch to launch in India, and the second wearable after the OnePlus Band. The OnePlus 9 price in India starts at Rs 49,999 for 8GB + 128GB, and goes all the way up to Rs 69,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant of the OnePlus 9 Pro.
OnePlus has expectedly gone the premium route with the overall build quality and design of the OnePlus 9 series. The company has also offered a premium wearable experience with the Cobalt Limited Edition of the OnePlus Watch, which gets a cobalt alloy body and sapphire glass on top. It does not run on Google’s WearOS software ecosystem. As a result, it does not get the ability to reply to messages or interact with third party apps from the Watch itself. You will therefore get a limited experience with the OnePlus Watch, even though it gets features such as round the clock bloody oxygen tracking, a barometer, 50 watch faces, calling and more. It is essentially similar to the Realme Watch S Pro, with what looks like a more premium build. The Watch is priced at Rs 16,999 in India.
OnePlus 9
Starting with the OnePlus 9, the regular model sports a 6.55-inch Full-HD+ (2400×1080 pixels) AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass layer for protection and supports up to 1100 nits of peak brightness with HDR10+ support for a rich viewing experience. Under the hood, it packs the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone runs on Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 out of the box.
The triple rear camera system houses a 48-megapixel primary camera with EIS support and f/1.8 aperture. There’s also a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. For selfies, the OnePlus 9 carries a 16-megapixel shooter with EIS support. The primary camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 60fps and 8K videos at 30fps. The camera app comes preloaded with modes like nightscape, super macro, ultra-shot HDR, smart scene recognition, portrait mode, pro mode, panorama, tilt-shift mode, among many more. The camera app also features a Hasselblad Pro Mode that lets users adjust ISP range, white balance, and more manually, for a professional camera experience.
Other notable features on the smartphone include 5G, an under-display fingerprint sensor, a dual-cell 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W Warp Charge fast charging solution. The phone is said to attain full battery in less than 30 minutes with the OnePlus 65W charger, included in the box. The OnePlus 9 comes in Winter Mist, Arctic Sky and Astral Black colour options. Its price starts at Rs 49,99 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and goes up to Rs 54,999 for the 12GB + 256GB storage variant.
OnePlus 9 Pro
On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 Pro features a relatively larger 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with Ultra-HD (4K) resolution and adaptive refresh rate that can adjust automatically between 1Hz to 120Hz, to preserve battery. Under the hood, it also carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 out of the box.
The quad rear camera setup includes a 48-megapixel primary camera with OIS support and f/1.8 aperture, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. At the front, there’s a 16-megapixel shooter with EIS support and f/2.4 aperture. The camera app supports the same modes as OnePlus 9. However, the primary capable of shooting 4K videos at 120fps. Other notable features on the smartphones include 5G, under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, and face unlock. The OnePlus 9 Pro also comes with a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery that supports 65W fast charging. It also supports 50W fast charging that is touted to fully charge the device in 43 minutes. The main packaging includes the 65W charging brick.
The OnePlus 9 Pro comes in Morning Mist, Pine Green and Stellar Black colour options. Its price start at Rs 64,999 for the 8GB + 128GB storage option, and goes up to Rs 69,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. The company is yet to share their availability details.
OnePlus Watch
The OnePlus Watch comes with a minimal design, with just two buttons and has been launched in two colour options – silver and black, alongside a cobalt limited edition, which is made out of a cobalt alloy. During the launch, OnePlus said that the special cobalt edition is made of material that is so difficult to work with, that about 50 percent of the smartwatches get rejected. However, the 50 percent that do come out of the factory, would look the part. The limited edition OnePlus Watch uses sapphire glass on the dial. The smartwatch is priced at Rs 16,999 for the standard edition in India. It is not known when the OnePlus Watch will go on sale in India. There is also no word on the OnePlus Watch Special Cobalt Edition’s price and availability yet.
The watch has a 1.39-inch display with a 326ppi pixel density. OnePlus has also designed 50 watch faces and there is an option for users to take a photo from their phone and personalise a Watch face for themselves. The OnePlus Watch also has detachable straps, allowing users to put third-party straps on their new smartwatch. In terms of features, the OnePlus Watch comes with many sensors including a heart rate sensor, Blood Oxygen Sensor, Acceleration sensor, Gyroscope, Geomagnetic sensor, Air Pressure sensor, and GPS. Further, the OnePlus Watch has more than 110 workout modes.
The OnePlus Watch also allows users to check messages, take calls, and more even when their hands are full. The smartwatch can also seamlessly connect to the OnePlus TV and act as a remote to the OnePlus TV. If a OnePlus Watch is connected to a OnePlus TV and a user gets a call, the TV will automatically lower the volume. If a user falls asleep while watching TV, the OnePlus Watch will turn off the OnePlus TV automatically after 30 minutes of the user falling asleep – these features will come to the OnePlus Watch in the coming days, the company said. In terms of battery, the OnePlus Watch is claimed to last up to two week on regular usage and a week’s battery life for heavy users. The OnePlus Watch can charge for one week of usage in just 20 minutes, the company claims.
